Background

After years of category leadership and growth due to both internal gains and acquisitions, this client faced declining market shares across brands. Innovation and renovation results had lagged for several years. Silos were apparent across functions, brands and geographies, limiting success on multiple fronts.

Objectives

To develop a holistic approach to breakthrough and sustainable innovation and renovation, reduce duplication of effort across brands and better optimize technical resources.

TPG Approach

TPG utilized our proven assessment, design and implementation methodologies to determine key inhibitors of success, and develop an innovative design customized to the unique culture and business needs of this client. Our outputs included:

  • Design of an Innovation / Renovation Strategic Planning Approach, guided by a multi-functional executive team to ensure total business alignment.
  • Creation of a cross-functional, cross-brand Innovation Team focused on development of breakthrough innovations to fill the pipeline through synergistic application of functional strengths.
  • A cross-portfolio decision making and prioritization methodology which included development of a scorecard targeted on selecting projects that ultimately achieve the strategic vision. As well, established a longer term focused Innovation Council charged with providing support and resources to enable pipeline expansion, speed and ultimate success.
  • Identification of new capabilities required to achieve step change success in innovation to include consumer platform teams, technical integration experts and project management.
